Our Voice, Our Home, Our Maui.
Seeking to renew Maui through innovation, progress, and the grit to tackle our toughest issues, Carol Lee Kamekona was the first candidate to file her paperwork to run for the Maui County Council seat in the Kahului district.
Kahului, Maui, HI – April 9, 2024 - Earlier today, “NTY” Carol Lee Kamekona officially filed paperwork to run for Maui County Council in the Kahului district. Carol Lee has become the first candidate to file the paperwork for the Kahului seat. This seat will be contested during the upcoming election, and all Maui County voters will have the chance to select their next County Councilor.
Carol Lee’s vision is a Maui where everyone has access to affordable housing, where small businesses thrive in a diversified economy, and where our food security is strengthened through local farming initiatives. Her tenure has been marked by strong leadership presence and the ability to motivate others toward growth. She’s a proud single mother of seven and grandmother to eleven with steadfast dedication to family and community. Aunty Carol Lee stands as a guardian for the future, championing Aloha ʻAina in every policy, initiative, and community effort.
“I'm a retired, 22-year Navy veteran with strong leadership values: responsibility, unwavering commitment, and the ability to lead through adversity. Make no mistake - Maui's stability is at risk. Housing is a human right, yet housing has become overwhelming for over 50% of our local families who work multiple jobs just to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table. Meanwhile over 25% of our homes are owned by non-residents, our economy is distinctly dependent on tourism, and family farms struggle to compete against cheap, imported food. I plan to boost affordable housing, tackle the economic factors promoting non-resident ownership, and diversify our economy by supporting small businesses, healthcare and trades careers, sustainable agriculture, and the film industry. Together, we'll forge a resilient, prosperous Maui.”
